Many practices suffer from short term increases in workload which are difficult to cope with within current staffing levels, yet the increase is insufficient to consider taking on additional permanent staff. This can mean dealing with agencies who charge commissions and may offer contract staff of whom little is known of their experience or knowledge.
I have over 40 years working in architectural practice on a wide range of commercial, industrial and domestic projects, both as new builds, refurbishments or extensions, carried out under both traditional contracts and design and build. I can provide short or long-term assistance to assist architectural practices deliver projects on time, whilst maintaining the highest quality. My experience allows me to work with minimal oversight whilst still being able to integrate and co-operate fully with the design team.
Fire Risk Management Strategies
Recent fire tragedies such as that at Grenfell and The Glasgow School of Art show just how important developing appropriate fire risk strategies right from the design stage are, whether for new build or refurbishment.
As a technical member of the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO) and with a NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management, I can bring particular experience to complex projects that require a considered input in terms of dealing with fire safety, such as warrant applications based on alternative guidance, or assisting with fabric condition surveys where upgrading fire safety precautions is a general concern or direct element of the brief.
General Health and Safety Matters
Previous general experience dealing with general health and safety matters including working with the CDM regulations, along with experience gained working towards my Fire Safety qualification above (I have a NEBOSH NGC1 certificate which is a preliminary requirement for the Fire Safety Certificate).
Quality Management
I also have a broad experience of working with Quality Management Systems and can assist practices trying to improve the consistency of their output, or with arranging or updating project quality management strategies.
